California Country Park - New ParkRun

Edited: Feb 19

A new Parkrun is about to hit the trails, at California Country Park as of 23rd Feb. The course starts with a lap of the woods, an out and back section on the greenway, up a muddy bridleway, along a public footpath, a repeat of the lap of the woods and a 200m sprint to the finish, just 5k which is a walk (run) in the park for most of you!

As Charlie will be race directing the 2nd event (2nd Mar) it would be a great opportunity for the Berkshire Trail Runners to attend and support this new event. For those that can attend can you wear your BTR shirts please as it may give our club a little exposure too.

Obviously Parkrun depends on volunteers to make it work so if any of you are able to help out please take a look at the volunteer list below, marshalls, scanners and number checkers are all easy roles for anyone unfamiliar with Parkrun.

California Country Park is straight down Nine Mile Ride from Swinley forest just 16 min drive.

Finally DONT forget your barcode!

Thankyou Patrick for putting this up. I’m very excited to be part of the team for this new parkrun. It really is a lovely venue and I’m sure will be a success. As Patrick says the first one is this Saturday, however there are a breed of park runners that visit all inaguaral parkruns and we could be inundated with them which is a shame as we do need a bedding in period as there’s bound to be tweaks we need to make. Next Saturday the 2nd though I am run director so would be lovely to see you for the support and also to promote Berkshire Trail Runners. Patrick you can bring some flyers to hand out to the finishers if you like.

See you all soon, love Charlie x

  • Sent via email anyone interested?... Hi, I am a member of a community sports club, South London Orienteers who organise three great races on Surrey Hills, near Dorking on 9th June (Pre-entry £8.00). The races are 6 miles (10K), 10 miles (16K) and 18 miles (29K). We think these might appeal to those who enjoy running and trail running. Run under FRA rules. Mostly varied trails and tracks, timing check points. Competitors get a map of each race with the check points marked, there is free parking, indoor changing and showers, water stations, timing chips given out, and finally each person who completes the race will get a unique birch-wood medal etched with a picture of Leith Hill Tower, it is a lovely memento. All the information is on the South London Orienteering website and we have also made a video of the Ten Mile race to help people with route choice; the video is on South London Orienteers Youtube Channel https://youtu.be/CYm2oksti2M There is a chance (just!) for anyone who is interested to 'learn' the route with us on Saturday 11th May, but they do need to contact me if interested. I wonder if you would mind send this information around your members as they might want to try something new. We welcome groups and people who want to run together. Thanks Sarah Brown http://slow.org.uk/events/surrey-hills-race-2019/
  • A request was made to pass this on... Message: Hi I just wanted to let you and your Runners know about the Binfield 10k race taking place on 19th May. There are still places left and 100% of the profits go to charity. This year we are supporting Youthline. I would be really grateful if you could spread the word! Thanks Selina www.binfield10k.co.uk
