Run Leaders Wanted...

Updated: Dec 12, 2021

Our club has been running in its current form supported by England Athletics since 2018. We have been lucky enough to have enough volunteers to run an uninterrupted calendar throughout, however since then we have had one or two departures from the team and a few withdrawals due to other commitments. This has left us with a small group of leaders covering the 12 runs we do per month.

To ensure continued fulfilment of our running calendar we are looking to recruit a few more run leaders, each of which will be required to complete the England Athletics Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) course. Previously this was a one day course at on of their training centres, however this has now been replaced with online training followed by a videoed practical run. If you think you have what it takes and would like to be involved in the future of our running club, then please read on below.

The first Run Leaders (LiRF) courses are set to start at the end of January 2022, and although there is a charge of £170 (paid to England Athletics), this will be reimbursed by the club in return for you commitment to lead at least 1 run a month, for a period of 1 year.

What is required:

  • You must be a member of the club for at least 3 months.

  • You can run up to 10K (or more)

  • Happy to run at a pace that suits all of the group

  • You can lead at least 1 run per month for at least 1 year

  • You can navigate your way around Swinley forest either by memory or using a navigation device (phone etc)

  • You are happy to carry a basic first aid kit, space blanket and a phone whilst leading.

If you are interested in becoming a leader please send as an email here https://www.berkshiretrailrunners.uk/contact (use general enquiries)

Details of the course can be found below.

"The Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) course will focus on the safe organisation of achievable and progressive running activity and how to lead a group of runners of varying ability. It focuses on understanding and overcoming barriers to participation in running and how to increase participation by those not traditionally attracted to a running club.

The course consists of a series of Online Learning Modules, a Remote Practical activity, and a Virtual Classroom session (1.5 hours)."
